The Uniform Patrol Division of the Bartow County Sheriff's Office is under the command of Major David Prentice. The Uniform Patrol Division is made up of four shifts. A Lieutenant, Sergeant, Corporal and approximately eight patrol deputies, mans each shift. Deputies usually work first in the jail division before coming to Patrol. Upon entering the Uniform Patrol Division, deputies are assigned to an eight-week Field Training Program.

 

Responsibility:   The Uniform Patrol Division is the most visible division of the Sheriff's Office and often makes the first contact with Bartow County residents. The Uniform Patrol Division is responsible for providing basic line functions for the Sheriff's Office. Patrol deputies maintain peace and order, patrol sectors within Bartow County, answer calls for service, enforce traffic laws and conduct initial investigations of crimes. Patrol deputies provide services throughout the 471 square miles of Bartow County and assist other Law enforcement agencies and public safety in Bartow County when requested.

 

Education:   Every deputy is encouraged to expand their educational skills, to include college as well as law enforcement courses. Each deputy must complete 40 hours of law enforcement P.O.S.T. certified courses each year. Deputies attend various in-service training throughout the year including but not limited to firearms, defensive tactics, domestic violence and Georgia Law updates etc.
