Jail Quarantine Announcement
In response to some of the jail inmates coming back with positive Covid-19 tests we are quarantining the entire jail population effective today, October 14th. Even though these that have tested positive have been largely asymptomatic (not having bad symptoms like low oxygen levels etc.) we think it is prudent to quarantine to prevent the further spread.

You will still be able to do video visitation, phone calls, e-mails etc. with the folks in custody.

We have observed the mistruths that have been posted on social media the last couple of days, I can assure you that we are monitoring all the inmates in the facility and we are testing and following the state health departments guidelines and recommendations.

We provide medical care to the inmates that far exceeds what most of them receive while they are not in custody.

Please do not call and ask if your relative or loved one has tested positive, due to HIPPA regulations we cannot release this information to you. If the inmate tests positive they will be told the results of their test and they can share it with you if they wish.

Please do not believe everything you read on social media, some folks just like to spread rumors and panic when there is no need.

My jail staff and I took an oath, to protect and serve, this includes people who are incarcerated as well.

We take this oath very seriously and would never purposefully do anything to endanger the citizens of this county or their loved ones who might be in custody.
Your Sheriff, Clark Millsap
Immigration And Nationality Act
Also known as HB1105, the law requires Georgia's Department of Corrections to monitor inmates who are not U.S. citizens. It mandates quarterly reports by jailers regarding their immigration status, the crimes they've committed, and their country of origin. Jails must also adhere to new procedures when processing these individuals. This law includes penalties for non-compliance and will supersede any conflicting old laws. HB1105 is a bill to be entitled an Act to amend Title 42 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to penal institutions, so as to require the commissioner of corrections to report certain information regarding the immigration status, offenses, and home countries of persons who are confined under the authority of the Department of Corrections; to provide for standard procedures for intake and booking of aliens and foreign nationals; to provide for quarterly reports by jailers regarding foreign born inmates; to provide for penalties; to provide for related matters; to provide for a short title; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
Georgia Criminal Alien Track And Report Act Of 2024
This bill, the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024, aims to enhance cooperation between state and local law enforcement agencies and federal immigration authorities in order to identify and detain criminal illegal aliens. Key provisions include: Authorizing law enforcement officers to verify the immigration status of individuals accused of certain misdemeanor offenses prior to releasing them on citation. Requiring state and local agencies to enter into agreements with federal immigration authorities to assist with enforcement of immigration laws. Mandating that custodial authorities honor immigration detainer notices and report information on foreign-born inmates. Imposing penalties on local governments that adopt "sanctuary" policies that restrict cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. Requiring the Department of Audits and Accounts to review and audit annual reports on agency compliance with immigration-related laws. Expanding the collection of DNA samples from certain convicted felons subject to immigration detainers. The bill aims to promote compliance with state laws related to deterring the presence of criminal illegal aliens in Georgia.
